FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

How do I contact the EAP?

To contact the EAP with a general question, or to talk to a counselor, you may call our office at 617-868-4489 or toll-free at 800-888-5105. Counselors are available 24 hours a day, every day of the year.

We also have information available on our website about a variety of situations and resources.

Do I have to pay anything to talk to a counselor?

No, EAP services are prepaid by your employer. Your company selected the specific benefits for all of its employees. Everyone has the opportunity for an initial telephone consultation and then up to three visits with a counselor.

What if I still need to see someone after three visits?

Your EAP counselor will help you find a mental health provider through your health insurance or through low cost community mental health clinics. Some employers do provide additional sessions with the EAP, and we can tell you at your first phone call just what your company benefit includes.

Will my employer know that I came to see the EAP?

No. Your EAP is completely confidential. We cannot tell anyone your identity or anything about you unless you give us permission. Only if someone were in danger could we say anything about you to someone else. These situations are subject to applicable state laws in which our counselors are mandated reporters.

Can my family members use the EAP?

You and any member of your immediate household are eligible for services from the EAP.

I work all day. Can I come before or after work?

Yes, you can. We have evening hours Monday through Thursday in our main office in Cambridge, and Thursday evenings in downtown Boston. In addition, morning hours are available upon request.

We also have other offices in the Boston area and throughout Massachusetts, as well as Connecticut, Rhode Island, and New Hampshire. We have affiliated counselors in cities all across the United States.

How long will my appointment be?

Appointments are usually about 50 minutes.

Will I always see the same counselor?

Usually you will see the same counselor. In an emergency, however, another counselor would be able to meet with you or talk with you on the telephone.
